And the good news is that Martin O’Donnell, aka Mr. Skinny, became a U.S. citizen on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Here he is being congratulated by his wife, Michelle, aka Mrs. Skinny, and USCIS Officer Neil Freeman of the Bedford, NH office. A special thanks to USCIS and to Merriman House which quickly turned the resident dining room into U.S. Party Central, complete with American flags and two fabulous red, white and blue cakes by Delectables by Danette of North Conway, NH. The official part of the ceremony concluded with a touching group sing of “America, the Beautiful.” Mr. Skinny was born in bonny Scotland.

The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co. played a little hooky from Skinny T&W making and made 12 toasty fleece lap blankets for residents at Merriman House, our local nursing home. Among our company’s Core Values: “Giving Back to the Community. If we make a buck—and believe us, during those tough, early years a buck was about what we were making—a part of that buck will be given back to the community.’’

Once again your Skinny purchases have made it possible to help others. This time we donated funds which enabled Cross Roads House in Portsmouth, NH, to purchase a new refrigerator for its residents, who are homeless. A big thanks, too, to the Cross Roads staff for all their efforts and to The Home Depot in Portsmouth, which provided a discount.

Thanks to everyone who came out in the less-than-springtime weather over the weekend to the Seacoast Home and Garden Show at the Whittemore Center Arena at UNH. It was a homecoming for us as the Skinny Washcloth was invented in a shower at our then-home in Durham. And thanks for making our Skinny Towel Floor Mitt the weekend’s top seller!

Thanks to the kids at our local school—Josiah Bartlett Elementary in Bartlett, NH—for having a holiday food drive and for reminding us that there is good in this world. Thanks to their teachers and parents for instilling these values, to Jeff Cox and the crew at Hannaford Supermarkets in North Conway for lending a helping hand and to the two employees at JBES for helping us unload the haul, which included 10 turkeys.
