Our History

Our company’s beginnings go back to early 2011 in a shower in Durham, NH. Bummed because her square washcloth was failing miserably in the back-washing department, Michelle (aka Mrs. Skinny) took scissors to a hand towel first-skinny-washclothsand the Skinny Washcloth® was on its way to being born. She and Mr. Skinny soon set their sights on the traditional, overly large bath towel, especially if you are going to have a company called The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co. Realizing that most large towels still have dry sections after use, they went to work making a smaller, more efficient and yes, skinnier towel.

The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.® family continues to grow as we develop more Skinny products. Now located in northern New Hampshire with the beautiful White Mountains as a backdrop, we are proud to call the great State of New Hampshire home and Skinny corporate headquarters.

Colors & Process

Our Colors

We love ourselves some New Hampshire, and so our colors are named after 603 locations. But, as the saying goes, WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Each Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.® product comes with a little card loaded with fun facts about places and people in the 603. Collect ‘em, trade ‘em, dazzle your friends with your new-found NH knowledge and your ability to properly pronounce Pemigewasset, Androscoggin, Piscataqua, Chocorua, Ammonoosuc and Contoocook.

Our Process

Handmade in the NH. That’s us. We cut all fabric by hand and sew everything ourselves on our four-thread Juki MO-6700 Series commercial serger. This overlock sewing machine cuts the edges of the terrycloth while sewing over the edges to create a finished product that is easy on the eyes yet can take a beating.

We are a family-owned business and like any family, occasionally, the odd duck will show up in the form of a new Skinny product, a new color or a new design. We’re always thinking of a better Skinny way.

Our Core Values

At The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co., we hold near and dear:

Bath and Shower Time: And we totally love that there’s a simple way to wash your back by yourself.

Giving Back to the Community: If we make a buck—and believe us, during those tough, early days a buck was about what we were making—a part of that buck will be given back to the community.

Innovation and Creativity: We’d be nowhere without ‘em. Good thing we paid no attention to the naysayers. If you are in a position to discourage innovation and creativity, please don’t.

Customer Service: The only time we’ll ever yell and scream at you is if we have a bad phone connection because the service up in the sticks can sometimes be iffy, but even then we’ll apologize.

Respect for Others: Our parents and teachers who laid the all-important foundation would not have it any other way.

The People and the Spirit of New Hampshire: We came here for a weekend visit, three months later we moved here, and today our company is headquartered in the Granite State.

Our Moose

Pencil Moose In 2011 we asked a favor of mega-talented illustrator and friend Laura Rankin, author of “Ruthie and the (Not So) Very Busy Day,” “Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny, Tiny Lie” and “Fluffy and Baron.’’ Our request was quite simple: we need a moose bathing with one of our Skinny Washcloths. We also want the moose to look like a “T” so he can double as the T in our company name. And oh, yeah, we don’t want his face shown but he needs to be cute. And not to put any pressure on you, but he will be a big part of the logo and The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.’s identity for years to come so he will need to have some staying power.

When we saw her first rendition (above) we knew she had nailed it.

Once a splash of color and definition were added, we knew we had Our Moose ourselves a moose to represent our company in true New Hampshire moose style.

The Skinny Moose® is registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
