Without warning, our terry supplier changed up our fabric smack dab in the middle of high season. So we did what any small business owner would do and polished off the better part of a bottle of Merlot, selected another fabric, and got to sewing. We must say we love the new stuff! Everything is still 100% cotton and we still have teal, our #1 selling color! Please let us know if you have comments or questions.

Swearing-in And the good news is that Martin O’Donnell, aka Mr. Skinny, became a U.S. citizen on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Here he is being congratulated by his wife, Michelle, aka Mrs. Skinny, and USCIS Officer Neil Freeman of the Bedford, NH office. A special thanks to USCIS and to Merriman House which quickly turned the resident dining room into U.S. Party Central, complete with American flags and two fabulous red, white and blue cakes by Delectables by Danette of North Conway, NH. The official part of the ceremony concluded with a touching group sing of “America, the Beautiful.” Mr. Skinny was born in bonny Scotland.

Among our company’s Core Values: “Giving Back to the Community. If we make a buck—and believe us, during those tough, early years a buck was about what we were making—a part of that buck will be given back to the community.’’

A big thanks, too, to the Cross Roads staff for all their efforts and to The Home Depot in Portsmouth, which provided a discount.

Thanks to the kids at our local school—Josiah Bartlett Thanksgiving turkeys Elementary in Bartlett, NH—for having a holiday food drive and for reminding us that there is good in this world. Thanks to their teachers and parents for instilling these values, to Jeff Cox and the crew at Hannaford Supermarkets in North Conway for lending a helping hand and to the two employees at JBES for helping us unload the haul, which included 10 turkeys.

Our History

Our company’s beginnings go back to early 2011 in Durham, NH. Michelle O’Donnell was taking a shower and tried to wash her back by grabbing the end of her square washcloth. She realized it COULD work if she first-skinny-washclothsmade her arms longer, but wait! What if she made the washcloth longer? So she cut up an old towel (left), saw that she finally COULD wash her back and the Skinny Washcloth® was on its way to being born.

She and husband Martin then realized the traditional towel could use a makeover, too, especially if you are going to have a company called The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co. Realizing that most large, traditional towels still have dry sections after use, they went to work making a smaller, more efficient and yes, skinnier towel.

The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.® family continues to grow as we develop more Skinny products. With the beautiful White Mountains as a backdrop, we are proud to call the great State of New Hampshire home and Skinny corporate headquarters.

Our Colors

Our Colors We love ourselves some New Hampshire and why not? After all, this is the state that sent Franklin Pierce off to be the 14th President of the United States and where the inventor of Tupperware was born. And it was here that actress Bette Davis had eyes for a New Hampshire fella.

Each Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.® product comes with a little card loaded with fun facts about places and people in the 603. Collect ‘em, trade ‘em, dazzle your friends with your new-found NH knowledge! Before you know it, you’ll be fluent in New Hampshirese. The words Pemigewasset, Androscoggin, Piscataqua, Chocorua, Ammonoosuc and Contoocook will roll off your tongue.

Our Products

All Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co. products are 100% cotton and are lovingly cut and sew by us in our home office in northern New Hampshire before they are lovingly packed and shipped to you.

We make everything on our four-thread Juki MO-6700 Series commercial serger. This overlock sewing machine cuts the edges of the terrycloth while sewing over the edges to create a finished product that is easy on the eyes yet can take a beating.

We are a family-owned business and like any family, occasionally, the odd duck will show up in the form of a new Skinny product, a new color or a new design. Boring, we are not. We’re always thinking of a better Skinny way.

Our Core Values

At The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co., we hold near and dear:

Bath and Shower Time: And we totally love that there’s a simple way to wash your back by yourself.

Giving Back to the Community: If we make a buck—and believe us, during those tough, early days a buck was about what we were making—a part of that buck will be given back to the community.

Innovation and Creativity: We’d be nowhere without ‘em. Good thing we paid no attention to the naysayers. If you are in a position to discourage innovation and creativity, please don’t.

Customer Service: The only time we’ll ever yell and scream at you is if we have a bad phone connection because the service up in the sticks can sometimes be iffy, but even then we’ll apologize.

Respect for Others: Our parents and teachers who laid the all-important foundation would not have it any other way.

The People and the Spirit of New Hampshire: We came here for a weekend visit, three months later we moved here, and today our company is headquartered in the Granite State.

Honorable Mention to photographer Karen Stancik

Our lovely photographs are courtesy of Karen Stancik who can take a photo of a pile of dirty laundry and make it look good. (Note: if the photos look like kinda homegrown, Karen did not take them! Blame us and our iPhone.)

Our Moose

Pencil Moose In 2011 we asked a favor of mega-talented illustrator and friend Laura Rankin, author of “Ruthie and the (Not So) Very Busy Day,” “Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny, Tiny Lie” and “Fluffy and Baron.’’ Our request was quite simple: we need a moose bathing with one of our Skinny Washcloths. We also want the moose to look like a “T” so he can double as the T in our company name. And oh, yeah, we don’t want his face shown but he needs to be cute. And not to put any pressure on you, but he will be a big part of the logo and The Skinny Towel & Washcloth Co.’s identity for years to come so he will need to have some staying power.

When we saw her first rendition (above) we knew she had nailed it.

Once a splash of color and definition were added, we knew we had Our Moose ourselves a moose to represent our company in true New Hampshire moose style.

Our moose might not have a name yet, but he does have a trademark from the U.S. Office of Patents and Trademarks. And while he hates ticks, brainworm and motor vehicles, he is rather fond of girl meese, BRAKE FOR MOOSE signs, flannel plaid shirts and Skinny Washcloths®.
